EchoingPixels: Cross-Modal Adaptive Token Reduction for Efficient Audio-Visual LLMs

Audio-Visual Large Language Models (AV-LLMs) face prohibitive computational overhead from massive audio and video tokens. Token reduction, while extensively explored for video-only LLMs, is insufficient for the audio-visual domain, as these unimodal methods cannot leverage audio-visual cross-modal synergies. Furthermore, the distinct and dynamic information densities of audio and video render static budgets per modality suboptimal. How to perform token reduction on a joint audio-visual stream thus remains an unaddressed bottleneck. To fill this gap, we introduce EchoingPixels, a framework inspired by the coexistence and interaction of visuals and sound in real-world scenes. The core of our framework is the Cross-Modal Semantic Sieve (CS2), a module enabling early audio-visual interaction. Instead of compressing modalities independently, CS2 co-attends to the joint multimodal stream and reduces tokens from an entire combined pool of audio-visual tokens rather than using fixed budgets per modality. This single-pool approach allows it to adaptively allocate the token budget across both modalities and dynamically identify salient tokens in concert. To ensure this aggressive reduction preserves the vital temporal modeling capability, we co-design a Synchronization-Augmented RoPE (Sync-RoPE) to maintain critical temporal relationships for the sparsely selected tokens. Extensive experiments demonstrate that EchoingPixels achieves performance comparable to strong baselines using only 5-20% of the original tokens, with a 2-3x speedup and memory reduction.

Audio-Visual Flamingo: Open Audio-Visual Intelligence for Long and Complex Videos

We present Audio-Visual Flamingo (AV-Flamingo), a fully open state-of-the-art audio-visual large language model (AV-LLM) for joint understanding and reasoning over audio, images, and long-form videos. Unlike prior AV-LLMs that primarily focus on short clips, AV-Flamingo is designed for understanding and reasoning over long and complex real-world (audio-visual) videos. To support this, we make three key contributions: (i) Audio-Visual-Skills, a large-scale collection of real-world videos with ~7M caption and question-answer training instances designed to emphasize temporal, compositional, and cross-modal audio-visual reasoning; (ii) a novel three-stage curriculum that progressively trains the model from short-range perception to long-horizon multi-event reasoning; and (iii) Temporal Audio-Visual Interleaved Chain-of-Thought, a reasoning framework that explicitly grounds intermediate reasoning steps to timestamps in long audio-visual streams, improving temporal alignment and interpretability. Extensive experiments across 15+ audio-visual, omni-modal, audio, and vision benchmarks show that AV-Flamingo outperforms similarly sized open models by clear margins and remains highly competitive with, and in some cases surpasses, much larger open-weight and closed models, particularly on long and complex real-world audio-visual understanding and reasoning tasks. Beyond benchmark performance, AV-Flamingo exhibits strong real-world utility and transfers well to unseen tasks, highlighting its robustness and generalization ability.

SAVEn-Vid: Synergistic Audio-Visual Integration for Enhanced Understanding in Long Video Context

Endeavors have been made to explore Large Language Models for video analysis (Video-LLMs), particularly in understanding and interpreting long videos. However, existing Video-LLMs still face challenges in effectively integrating the rich and diverse audio-visual information inherent in long videos, which is crucial for comprehensive understanding. This raises the question: how can we leverage embedded audio-visual information to enhance long video understanding? Therefore, (i) we introduce SAVEn-Vid, the first-ever long audio-visual video dataset comprising over 58k audio-visual instructions. (ii) From the model perspective, we propose a time-aware Audio-Visual Large Language Model (AV-LLM), SAVEnVideo, fine-tuned on SAVEn-Vid. (iii) Besides, we present AVBench, a benchmark containing 2,500 QAs designed to evaluate models on enhanced audio-visual comprehension tasks within long video, challenging their ability to handle intricate audio-visual interactions. Experiments on AVBench reveal the limitations of current AV-LLMs. Experiments also demonstrate that SAVEnVideo outperforms the best Video-LLM by 3.61% on the zero-shot long video task (Video-MME) and surpasses the leading audio-visual LLM by 1.29% on the zero-shot audio-visual task (Music-AVQA). Consequently, at the 7B parameter scale, SAVEnVideo can achieve state-of-the-art performance. Our dataset and code will be released at https://ljungang.github.io/SAVEn-Vid/ upon acceptance.

AV-SQL: Decomposing Complex Text-to-SQL Queries with Agentic Views

Text-to-SQL is the task of translating natural language queries into executable SQL for a given database, enabling non-expert users to access structured data without writing SQL manually. Despite rapid advances driven by large language models (LLMs), existing approaches still struggle with complex queries in real-world settings, where database schemas are large and questions require multi-step reasoning over many interrelated tables. In such cases, providing the full schema often exceeds the context window, while one-shot generation frequently produces non-executable SQL due to syntax errors and incorrect schema linking. To address these challenges, we introduce AV-SQL, a framework that decomposes complex Text-to-SQL into a pipeline of specialized LLM agents. Central to AV-SQL is the concept of agentic views: agent-generated Common Table Expressions (CTEs) that encapsulate intermediate query logic and filter relevant schema elements from large schemas. AV-SQL operates in three stages: (1) a rewriter agent compresses and clarifies the input query; (2) a view generator agent processes schema chunks to produce agentic views; and (3) a planner, generator, and revisor agent collaboratively compose these views into the final SQL query. Extensive experiments show that AV-SQL achieves 70.38% execution accuracy on the challenging Spider 2.0 benchmark, outperforming state-of-the-art baselines, while remaining competitive on standard datasets with 85.59% on Spider, 72.16% on BIRD and 63.78% on KaggleDBQA. Our source code is available at https://github.com/pminhtam/AV-SQL.

AVBench: Human-Aligned and Automated Evaluation Benchmark for Audio-Video Generative Models

Rapid advances in audio-video (AV) generation have enabled high-fidelity synthesis with synchronized sound, particularly for human-related scenarios involving speech and interactions. Yet evaluation for AV generation remains at an early stage, with only a few coarse-grained benchmarks for human-related scenarios and relying on limited preset evaluations with generic multimodal LLMs, leading to inaccurate assessments of model capabilities. To address these issues, we introduce AVBench, a fully automated benchmark tailored for human-centric AV generation. AVBench is built on two key designs for comprehensive and accurate evaluation: (i) Human-centric and fine-grained metrics. AVBench integrates ten evaluation dimensions designed for human-centered real-world scenarios, covering visual quality, audio quality, and multi-level consistency across modalities. These practical metrics capture human-related details that existing benchmarks often overlook. (ii) Specialized evaluators via preference learning. To address the lack of specialized training data, we construct large-scale supervision by transforming real-world videos into diverse training pairs with controlled perturbations. After fine-tuning on this high-quality dataset, the evaluators learn to reliably detect subtle cross-modal inconsistencies. Crucially, instead of producing discrete textual judgment, AVBench derives continuous evaluation scores from the model's prediction confidence on binary decisions. This probabilistic scoring mechanism enables a more reliable assessment than traditional VQA-style evaluation and aligns closely with human judgment. Taken together, AVBench offers automated evaluation for AV generation, demonstrates strong potential for data filtering, and serves as a differentiable reward signal for Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF).
