Large Landscape of 4d Superconformal Field Theories from Small Gauge Theories

We systematically explore the space of renormalization group flows of four-dimensional N=1 superconformal field theories (SCFTs) triggered by relevant deformations, as well as by coupling to free chiral multiplets with relevant operators. In this way, we classify all possible fixed point SCFTs that can be obtained from certain rank 1 and 2 supersymmetric gauge theories with small amount of matter multiplets, identifying 7,346 inequivalent fixed points which pass a series of non-trivial consistency checks. This set of fixed points exhibits interesting statistical behaviors, including a narrow distribution of central charges (a, c), a correlation between the number of relevant operators and the ratio a/c, and trends in the lightest operator dimension versus a/c. The ratio a/c of this set is distributed between 0.7228 and 1.2100, where the upper bound is larger than that of previously known interacting SCFTs. Moreover, we find a plethora of highly non-perturbative phenomena, such as (super)symmetry enhancements, operator decoupling, non-commuting renormalization group flows, and dualities. We especially identify amongst these fixed points a new SCFT that has smaller central charges (a, c) = (633{2000},683{2000}) than that of the deformed minimal Argyres-Douglas theory, as well as novel Lagrangian duals for certain N=1 deformed Argyres-Douglas theories. We provide a website https://qft.kaist.ac.kr/landscape to navigate through our set of fixed points.

An Infinite Family of Non-Rational VOAs from Strongly Coupled 4d Higgsless SCFTs

We study an infinite family of strongly coupled four-dimensional mathcal N=2 superconformal field theories (SCFTs) distinguished by a trivial Higgs branch, known as the (A_2,D_{3m+1}) Argyre-Douglas theories. We propose that their associated vertex operator algebras (VOAs) are the doublet algebras mathcal A(4m+2), an infinite family of non-rational vertex operator superalgebras with a remarkably simple strong generating set of only three fields. We provide several highly nontrivial checks of this proposal. In particular, we reproduce the four-dimensional conformal anomalies a and c from the VOA and analytically prove the exact equality between the Schur index of the SCFT and the supercharacter of the VOA. A key ingredient is a diagonal-gauging realization of the (A_2,D_{3m+1}) theories in terms of two simpler building blocks, which makes the Schur-index computation tractable. Remarkably, we find that the resulting Schur index of the (A_2,D_{3m+1}) theory coincides with that of mathcal N=4 SU(2) Super-Yang-Mills theory, up to an overall prefactor and an appropriate identification of fugacities. We also discuss a generalization to the two-parameter family (A_{2s},D_{(2s+1)m+1}), whose members likewise have trivial Higgs branches and admit diagonal-gauging realizations. A particularly interesting subfamily is (A_{2s},D_{2s+2}), for which the four-dimensional conformal anomalies coincide, a=c. Our results reveal a systematic connection between Higgsless SCFTs, diagonal gauging, and strongly finite but non-rational vertex operator algebras.

Precision holography for non-conformal branes

We set up precision holography for the non-conformal branes preserving 16 supersymmetries. The near-horizon limit of all such p-brane solutions with p \leq 4, including the case of fundamental string solutions, is conformal to AdS_{p+2} x S^{8-p} with a linear dilaton. We develop holographic renormalization for all these cases. In particular, we obtain the most general asymptotic solutions with appropriate Dirichlet boundary conditions, find the corresponding counterterms and compute the holographic 1-point functions, all in complete generality and at the full non-linear level. The result for the stress energy tensor properly defines the notion of mass for backgrounds with such asymptotics. The analysis is done both in the original formulation of the method and also using a radial Hamiltonian analysis. The latter formulation exhibits most clearly the existence of an underlying generalized conformal structure. In the cases of Dp-branes, the corresponding dual boundary theory, the maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory SYM_{p+1}, indeed exhibits the generalized conformal structure found at strong coupling. We compute the holographic 2-point functions of the stress energy tensor and gluon operator and show they satisfy the expected Ward identities and the constraints of generalized conformal structure. The holographic results are also manifestly compatible with the M-theory uplift, with the asymptotic solutions, counterterms, one and two point functions etc of the IIA F1 and D4 appropriately descending from those of M2 and M5 branes, respectively. We present a few applications including the computation of condensates in Witten's model of holographic YM_4 theory.

Quantum Gravity from Gluing Consistency: AdS/CFT to Spin-Foams

We argue that BF theory with SO(d+1,1) gauge group provides a SymTFT ''skeleton'' for building AdS_{d+1}/CFT_d pairs via gluing consistency as the bootstrap principle, loosely analogous to how compact Chern-Simons theory is a TQFT skeleton for rational CFTs. This is a non-perturbative bulk framework for quantum gravity. The bootstrap is formulated as presentation independence of physical amplitudes within a universal, defect-closed BF sewing calculus, which includes Wilson lines, codimension-two monodromy defects, and their junctions. The flat BF connection encodes the conformal geometry of the boundary, while Wilson-line path integrals construct candidate quantum-gravity microstates and charge sectors. When the bootstrapped spectrum has a stress tensor, Ward identities naturally connect it to the B-field, a relation we call generalized simplicity. In large-N, large-gap regimes admitting a gravitational EFT, this motivates the introduction of an effective notion of the B-field. In the Einstein limit, this becomes the ''simplicity'' relation used in spin-foam models. Conventional spin-foam models try to obtain gravity by constraining BF theory. We suggest instead that BF theory is the Platonic sewing skeleton, from which theories are to be bootstrapped. Despite the topological nature of the skeleton, perturbative local bulk fields can emerge via Wilson-towers of multi-trace primaries, reproducing their one-loop determinants. We note that the BF Fourier kernel is a suggestive higher-dimensional analogue of the modular-S structure. Because the bulk gluing principle in itself does not require a boundary description, the framework is conceptually broader than AdS/CFT. We sketch how de Sitter space may fit into this picture, with a natural role for observers. Our approach elevates gluing consistency to a universal bulk principle underlying theories of quantum gravity.

More on the Weak Gravity Conjecture via Convexity of Charged Operators

The Weak Gravity Conjecture has recently been re-formulated in terms of a particle with non-negative self-binding energy. Because of the dual conformal field theory (CFT) formulation in the anti-de Sitter space the conformal dimension Delta (Q) of the lowest-dimension operator with charge Q under some global U(1) symmetry must be a convex function of Q. This property has been conjectured to hold for any (unitary) conformal field theory and generalized to larger global symmetry groups. Here we refine and further test the convex charge conjecture via semiclassical computations for fixed charge sectors of different theories in different dimensions. We analyze the convexity properties of the leading and next-to-leading order terms stemming from the semiclassical computation, de facto, extending previous tests beyond the leading perturbative contributions and to arbitrary charges. In particular, the leading contribution is sufficient to test convexity in the semiclassical computations. We also consider intriguing cases in which the models feature a transition from real to complex conformal dimensions either as a function of the charge or number of matter fields. As a relevant example of the first kind, we investigate the O(N) model in 4+epsilon dimensions. As an example of the second type we consider the U(N)times U(M) model in 4-epsilon dimensions. Both models display a rich dynamics where, by changing the number of matter fields and/or charge, one can achieve dramatically different physical regimes. We discover that whenever a complex conformal dimension appears, the real part satisfies the convexity property.

Anomaly-mediated Scalar Gravitational Interactions and the Coupling of Conformal Sectors

We investigate the anomaly-induced activation of a gauge-invariant scalar degree of freedom in General Relativity, the conformalon mode, directly at the level of \(2\to2\) scattering amplitudes. The analysis couples anomalous three-point functions of conformal sectors, involving gravitons \((TTT)\) and Abelian gauge currents \((TJJ)\), through single-graviton exchange derived from the quadratic expansion of the Einstein--Hilbert action. Unlike related treatments based on the nonlocal anomaly action, these interactions are suppressed by the Planck scale. We show that the conformalon, invariant under linearized diffeomorphisms, admits an interpretation as an effective scalar correction to scattering amplitudes, both in virtual exchange channels and in effective real-emission processes. Around flat space, this behaviour arises from anomaly-induced nonlocal massless insertions on the external graviton and photon legs of the three-point functions, sewn through the scalar component of the graviton propagator in de Donder gauge. The resulting anomaly-mediated \(4\)-point interaction reduces to contact terms, with the Planck mass setting the suppression scale. The construction consistently matches the spin decomposition of flat-space conformal Ward identities in momentum space, which determine the vertices, with the corresponding spin decomposition of the graviton propagator. In the eikonal limit, these interactions generate contact corrections to the leading logarithmic phase in impact-parameter space. We further show that anomaly-mediated \(2\to2\) graviton amplitudes associated with the virtual exchange of such modes exhibit a characteristic double-copy structure.

Exploring Line Bundle Standard Models with Transformers

We propose a Transformer-based Reinforcement Learning architecture, "LB-Explorer", to search for heterotic line bundle standard models arising from compactifications on smooth Calabi-Yau (CY) threefolds. We construct E_8times E_8 vacua with SU(5) symmetry, where the SU(5) can be further broken to the Standard Model gauge group via discrete Wilson lines. We test the LB-Explorer environment on complete intersection Calabi-Yau (CICY) manifolds, though the neural network architecture naturally generalizes to any CY admitting a smooth, simplicial Mori cone and a freely-acting discrete symmetry. The LB-Explorer efficiently learns constraints on the line bundle sums, guaranteeing the E_8 gauge embedding, anomaly cancellation, poly-stability (supersymmetry), chirality of the spectrum, and the absence of exotic matter. Valid configurations can be subsequently filtered by imposing the missing constraints, such as the equivariant structure of the line bundle sum and further requirements on the particle spectrum. In this direction, we introduce a hybrid architecture incorporating CP-SAT solvers that aims to impose some of the conditions exactly by perturbing solutions found by the LB-Explorer. The versatility and scalability of the LB-Explorer make it a powerful tool for navigating the string landscape with a large number of moduli. The code and tools necessary to reproduce our findings are available at https://github.com/alexmininno/LB-Explorer

Non-Holomorphic Impact on t-b-τ Yukawa Unification in minimal GMSB

We study and explore the low scale implications of Yukawa unification in the minimal gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models. We also assume non-zero non-holomorphic terms, with which the YU solutions can be accommodated in the cases with μ> 0. These results can be considered a direct effect from the non-holomorphic terms, but they also lead to testable low scale implications compatible with YU. We observe abundant solutions consistent with the Higgs boson mass. This constraint leads to heavy strongly interacting supersymmetric particles, while the electroweak sector can be realized relatively lighter and they can be probed by several experiments. We find that the chargino can be lighter than 1 TeV and it is degenerate with the lightest neutralino in most of such solutions. Consistent solutions in this region can accommodate charginos as light as about 120 GeV, and they will be tested more likely soon by the analyses over the compressed spectra. These solutions are also be subjected in the lifetime analyses. Our analyses identify such light charginos decaying in about 10^{-2} ns. Probing such points may need a slight improvement in sensitivity of the analyses, and one can expect them to be tested very soon. In the same region, stau is realized to be another light supersymmetric particle, and some of the solutions can be inconsistently lighter. We find that it can weigh as light as about 600 GeV consistently, and it can be tested also soon over its lifetime. We summarize and also exemplify our findings with five benchmark scenarios. Most of the benchmark solutions also reveal that the solutions can be tested in heavy Higgs boson searches, which shape the whole Higgs boson spectrum in models.

Clifford algebra Cl(0,6) approach to beyond the standard model and naturalness problems

Is there more to Dirac's gamma matrices than meets the eye? It turns out that gamma zero can be factorized into a product of three operators. This revelation facilitates the expansion of Dirac's space-time algebra to Clifford algebra Cl(0,6). The resultant rich geometric structure can be leveraged to establish a combined framework of the standard model and gravity, wherein a gravi-weak interaction between the extended vierbein field and the extended weak gauge field is allowed. In conjunction with the composite Higgs model, we examine the vierbein field as a Cooper-pair-like fermion-antifermion condensation. Quantum gravity is realized indirectly via the quantized standard model spinor fields which underlie the composite space-time metric. We propose that the fundamental energy scales of the universe including the Planck scale are emergent and resulted from quantum condensations, thus possibly addressing the cosmological constant problem through an unconventional multi-scale renormalization procedure for multiplications of divergent Feynman integrals. The Clifford algebra approach also permits a weaker form of charge conjugation without particle-antiparticle interchange, leading to a Majorana-type mass that conserves lepton number. Additionally, with reshuffling the traditional quark-lepton pairing pattern of three generations of fermions, we explore a three-Higgs-doublet model with Higgs VEVs 246 GeV, 42 GeV and 2.5 GeV which could explain the mass hierarchies of fermions.

Axial-metric/polar-gauge perturbations of the Maldacena-Milekhin-Popov wormhole

We study linear perturbations of the Maldacena-Milekhin-Popov (MMP) wormhole in the parity sector that pairs axial metric perturbations with polar gauge perturbations. It contains the axial gravitational mode and the electric field along the magnetic field lines. The lowest Landau level (LLL) of the charged fermions responds through its charge. The gauge components a_τ, a_ρ form a two-dimensional gauge field on the worldsheet of each field line, and the fermions respond with the exact Schwinger current. Lifted over the sphere, it gives the electric field the MMP screening mass m_S^2=αq^2, which is not small and survives in the mouth. In the throat the perturbation tilts the worldsheets, and the Casimir stress tensor acquires mixed components. Force balance then requires a current across the field lines, and charge conservation fixes an accompanying polarisation current, the counterpart of the Hall current of the polar sector. These currents close the Bianchi identities at first order in the fermionic backreaction α. The system reduces to three coupled master equations, given in closed form and matched to the fermion-free mouth. Consistency alone does not select the fermionic constitutive relation, but locality, covariance and the index theorem do. At α=0 the throat reduces to Poschl-Teller problems with masses l(l-1) and (l+1)(l+2) at m_S^2=0. At finite m_S^2 one mode is screened, one tends to the mass l^2+l+2, and one neutral charge-density wave stays exactly massless. The O(α) shifts of the massive normal frequencies are real and negative. The two parity sectors are isospectral only without fermions. The neutral channel sees an attractive region in each mouth, and a numerical solution coupled to the gravitational channel in the exact mouth potential finds no bound state. The sector has no growing mode for lge2 at this order.

EFT (String) Tower Building

We develop a bottom-up framework to reconstruct the asymptotic spectrum of light towers in four-dimensional N=1 effective field theories directly from their Kähler potential. Our construction uses the Integral Scaling Relation, which relates the mass scales of towers becoming light at infinite distance to the tensions of EFT strings, together with the Emergent String Conjecture applied recursively upon decompactification. These conditions organize the tower scaling vectors into a lattice generated by the EFT-string vectors and select the globally consistent tower polytopes. When applied to Kähler potentials arising from string compactifications, our algorithm precisely reproduces the known arrangements of towers and duality frames. We then classify the admissible polytopes for asymptotic Kähler potentials Ksim-log P(s), with P(s) a homogeneous polynomial of degree at most seven, and show that certain apparently consistent Kähler potentials are incompatible with the assumed quantum-gravity constraints. For general polynomials, additional restrictions arise from gluing the tower arrangements across different growth sectors. Remarkably, every tower polytope allowed by our reconstruction can be obtained as a concrete slice of the polytope associated with M-theory on a Joyce G_2-manifold. This provides evidence for a form of string universality in which EFT strings act as the fundamental building blocks of the UV tower structure in the EFT perturbative regimes.

Rescaled Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity Inflation

We study the inflationary phenomenology of a rescaled Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. In this framework, the gravitational constant of the Einstein-Hilbert term is rescaled due to effective terms active in the high curvature era. Basically, the total theory is an F(R,G,phi) theory with the Gauss-Bonnet part contributing only a non-minimal coupling to the scalar field, so it is a theory with string theory origins and with a non-trivial F(R) gravity part. The F(R) gravity part in the high curvature regime contributes only a rescaled Einstein-Hilbert term and thus the resulting theory is effectively a rescaled version of a standard Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory. We develop the formalism of rescaled Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, taking in account the GW170817 constraints on the gravitational wave speed. We show explicitly how the rescaled theory affects directly the primordial scalar and tensor perturbations, and how the slow-roll and observational indices of inflation are affected by the rescaling of the theory. We perform a thorough phenomenological analysis of several models of interest and we show that is it possible to obtain viable inflationary theories compatible with the latest Planck data. Also among the studied models there are cases that yield a relatively large blue tilted tensor spectral index and we demonstrate that these models can lead to detectable primordial gravitational waves in the future gravitational wave experiments. Some of the scenarios examined, for specific values of the reheating temperature may be detectable by SKA, LISA, BBO, DECIGO and the Einstein Telescope.

Incomplete RG: Hawking-Page transition, C-theorem and relevant scalar deformations of global AdS

We discuss relevant scalar deformations of a holographic theory with a compact boundary. An example of such a theory would be the global AdS_4 with its spatially compact boundary S^2. To introduce a relevant deformation, we choose to turn on a time-independent and spatially homogeneous non-normalizable scalar operator with m^2 = -2. The finite size of a compact boundary cuts down the RG flow at a finite length scale leading to an incomplete RG flow to IR. We discuss a version of {\it incomplete} C-theorem and an {\it incomplete} attractor like mechanism. We discuss the implication of our results for entanglement entropy and geometric quantities like scalar curvature, volume and mass scale of fundamental excitation of the how these quantities increase or decrease (often monotonically) with the strength of the deformation. Thermal physics of a holographic theory defined on a compact boundary is more interesting than its non-compact counterpart. It is well known that with a compact boundary, there is a possibility of a first order Hawking-Page transition dual to a de-confinement phase transition. From a gravity perspective, a relevant deformation dumps negative energy inside the bulk, increasing the effective cosmological constant (Lambda) of the AdS. Dumping more negative energy in the bulk would make the HP transition harder and the corresponding HP transition temperature would increase. However, we have found the size of the BH at the transition temperature decreases.

Noncompactness for the constant Q_{2N}-curvature problem

For every integer Nge4, we construct a fixed smooth, non-locally-conformally-flat metric on the n-dimensional unit sphere S^n for which the constant Q_{2N}-curvature equation admits an L^infty-unbounded sequence of positive solutions. The construction applies for nge2N+20 when N=4,5, nge2N+19 when 6le Nle8, nge2N+18 when 9le Nle17, and nge2N+17 when Nge18. For each L in N cup {0}, the metric can be chosen arbitrarily close to the round metric in the C^L norm. Together with the known cases N=1,2,3, this establishes noncompactness at every order, with dimension bounds that we expect to be optimal. We derive an explicit formula for the fixed-volume Hessian of total Q_{2N}-curvature in transverse-traceless (TT) directions at closed Einstein metrics satisfying Ric=(n-1)g. Building on Juhl's formulas, we identify this Hessian, for every NinN and n>2N, as a degree-N polynomial in the Lichnerowicz Laplacian. For the metric perturbations generated by algebraic Weyl tensors in the construction, the quadratic reduced energy with fixed bubble center is a positive multiple of this Hessian restricted to a four-dimensional TT space. Differentiation with respect to the bubble scale then yields a finite matrix whose exact sign analysis establishes the required indefiniteness in the stated dimension ranges. After continuation to real n, this matrix changes from negative definite to indefinite at n_N=2N+a_*+c_*N^{-1}+O(N^{-2}) as Ntoinfty, with a_*approx16.201871 and c_*approx13.512880, explaining the eventual bound nge2N+17.

Warm-Inflation: a software for first-principles integration of warm inflation power spectra

As part of a PhD thesis entitled `Scalar perturbations in warm inflation and during reheating' we present a software for computing warm inflation observables. In particular, our Mathematica implementation computes the power spectrum, spectral tilt, and tensor-to-scalar ratio for a given momentum scale. Compared with other implementations, we start in a Bunch-Davies state deep inside the horizon, ideally at a time when thermal noise is exponentially suppressed. We integrate gauge-invariant equations for three curvature perturbations across horizon exit. We continue deep enough outside of horizon so that all curvature perturbations agree. Results are illustrated for Standard Model embedded warm inflation, and we also provide notebooks for several other popular potentials and friction coefficients. The theoretical foundations for the code can be found in the main part of the thesis or in earlier papers [1,2]. Specifically, part II derives gauge-invariant, model-agnostic evolution equations, as well as the noise autocorrelator interpolating between quantum and classical domains. Part III presents the general ideas behind the numerical implementation, while part IV presents selected results. The code is described, line-by-line, in Appendix A. The published PhD thesis is available at https://doi.org/10.48620/101166 while the notebooks can be downloaded from https://github.com/alicarogeljblackhole/Warm-Inflation.

Safety of dynamical SUSY breaking and gaugino condensation in models of spontaneous CP violation

Solving the strong CP problem with spontaneous CP violation (SCPV) in SUSY requires that the constant term of the superpotential and the SUSY-breaking F-term be real to high accuracy. When both are generated dynamically, by gaugino condensation and by dynamical SUSY breaking (DSB), their phases need not vanish even if every theta-angle vanishes and every coupling is real; e.g., the multivalued non-perturbative superpotential may sit on a branch with a complex phase. In fact, gaugino condensation, in pure SUSY Yang-Mills theory and in its Affleck-Dine-Seiberg generalization, is safe only for N_c - N_f in {1,2} (N_c = 2 for pure SYM); otherwise the phase of the constant term reaches the gluino mass through anomaly mediation. The SUSY-breaking F-term is the main source of the MSSM soft masses, including the gluino mass, so its phase reaches theta-bar as well. In the framework of global SUSY, the 3-2 model introduces no phase. The ISS model is safe for non-degenerate quark masses in that sector; in the degenerate (or nearly degenerate) limit, however, a complex vacuum orientation can generate an O(1) phase. The IYIT model can generate a purely imaginary F-term: for roughly half of the real Yukawa parameter space, the meson VEV is purely imaginary and CP is spontaneously broken. In all three, the vacuum of the field coupled to the messengers is aligned with the constant term, so a complex constant term generates a strong CP phase through a second route, separate from anomaly mediation.

Perturbative Reconstruction of Self-Adjoint Generators from Bosonic Canonical Commutation Relations: Application to the Null-Surface Formulation

We study the inverse adjoint problem for a perturbative bosonic outgoing map. Within the polynomial bosonic canonical-commutation-relation (CCR) algebra, we prove a constructive integrability theorem: order-by-order preservation of the CCRs is sufficient to reconstruct recursively a formal self-adjoint generator whose exponential implements the outgoing map by adjoint conjugation. At each order, the Baker--Campbell--Hausdorff contribution determined by previously reconstructed generators is subtracted from the outgoing coefficient, and the remaining homogeneous CCR conditions determine the next generator explicitly. We apply the construction to graviton scattering in the null-surface formulation (NSF), specialized to the flat solution-space sector with Minkowski metric, null generators, affine parameter, and cone measure. The NSF outgoing map preserves the Ashtekar radiative CCRs through (δa_3), corresponding to order (\varepsilon^2). At this order, the scalar CCR sector uniquely selects the symmetric ordering (c=1) for the nontrivial interacting kernel. The associated linear contraction, generated by the same cubic kernel, cancels the double-contraction contribution from ([δa_2,δa_2^\dagger]). The theorem then reconstructs the self-adjoint generators (δT_1) and (δT_2), providing a formal perturbative unitary implementation. The resulting canonical organization also separates the direct (2\to2) contribution into irreducible-loop, one-particle-reducible, and factorized sectors.

Asymptotic Safety in Gauge Theories beyond Four Dimensions: Perturbative Tests and Fixed-Point Mergers

Non-Abelian gauge theories above four dimensions may admit an interacting ultraviolet fixed point through the competition between canonical scaling and gauge-field antiscreening. Using the four-loop mathrm{MS} beta function continued to D=4+2ε, we determine the largest dimension D_{pt}=4+2ε_{pt} below which successive loop corrections to the fixed point remain hierarchically ordered under a specified ratio criterion, and map D_{pt} over color and flavor numbers for fermions in the fundamental representation of SU(N). At D=5, we construct rational anomalous dimensions with a fixed, pole-regularized denominator inspired by the functional renormalization group (fRG). Matching to the mathrm{MS} series through one, two, and three loops produces progressively smaller shifts in the critical flavor number and coupling at the ultraviolet--infrared merger (the point where the infrared and ultraviolet fixed points coincide), yielding N_f^{cr}simeq 2.09 , N at large N in the three-loop construction. This low-order stabilization, together with qualitative evidence from fRG flows including higher gauge operators, suggests a potential merger scenario that bounds the candidate asymptotically safe region in flavor number. The resulting color--flavor map provides guidance for five-dimensional model building by displaying both the baseline perturbative-control boundary and the candidate three-loop merger boundary. Four-loop matching, however, retains an interacting ultraviolet fixed point beyond the three-loop merger boundary, with no merger found for integer 2le Nle15 and 0le N_f/Nle11/2. The sensitivity of the fixed-point structure to higher-order terms leaves both scenarios open, highlighting fixed-point annihilation as a potential constraint on five-dimensional asymptotic safety.

Complex Worldline Instantons in (Anti-)de Sitter Space

We study complex saddle points of the worldline path integral for massive charged particles in two-dimensional maximally symmetric backgrounds threaded by homogeneous electric fields. Within the worldline formalism, we show that the semiclassical saddles generically require complexifying both the target spacetime and the proper-time parameter. The resulting solutions comprise two slices of a single complex family, distinguished by the direction of proper-time evolution. The one evolving in imaginary proper time carries an action that typically controls the exponential suppression of non-perturbative effects, while that evolving in real proper time may encode additional complex phases responsible for quantum interference between saddles. Treating this family as a whole, we give a prescription for constructing and classifying all topologically inequivalent instanton sectors, and we find that the worldline action depends only on their topological data, namely winding numbers around the compact directions and certain isolated punctures. Moreover, in Anti-de Sitter spacetime, the qualitative structure of the solutions is governed by the dimensionless ratio R |eE|/m (R being the curvature radius), which distinguishes sub-extremal, extremal, and super-extremal regimes. By contrast, no analogous distinction occurs in de Sitter---where the instantons are insensitive to this ratio---or in Minkowski spacetime, which lacks a curvature scale altogether. We also recast the action as a sum over residues of the relevant (non-conserved) conjugate momentum, making transparent which analytic data control each contribution. Finally, we discuss the subtleties that arise when solutions built in various local patches are lifted to global (Anti-)de Sitter space. These impose further necessary conditions on which saddles can in principle contribute to the one-loop path integral.

Light-Front Quantization and AdS/QCD: An Overview

We give an overview of the light-front holographic approach to strongly coupled QCD, whereby a confining gauge theory, quantized on the light front, is mapped to a higher-dimensional anti de Sitter (AdS) space. The framework is guided by the AdS/CFT correspondence incorporating a gravitational background asymptotic to AdS space which encodes the salient properties of QCD, such as the ultraviolet conformal limit at the AdS boundary at z to 0, as well as modifications of the geometry in the large z infrared region to describe confinement and linear Regge behavior. There are two equivalent procedures for deriving the AdS/QCD equations of motion: one can start from the Hamiltonian equation of motion in physical space time by studying the off-shell dynamics of the bound state wavefunctions as a function of the invariant mass of the constituents. To a first semiclassical approximation, where quantum loops and quark masses are not included, this leads to a light-front Hamiltonian equation which describes the bound state dynamics of light hadrons in terms of an invariant impact variable ζ which measures the separation of the partons within the hadron at equal light-front time. Alternatively, one can start from the gravity side by studying the propagation of hadronic modes in a fixed effective gravitational background. Both approaches are equivalent in the semiclassical approximation. This allows us to identify the holographic variable z in AdS space with the impact variable ζ. Light-front holography thus allows a precise mapping of transition amplitudes from AdS to physical space-time. The internal structure of hadrons is explicitly introduced and the angular momentum of the constituents plays a key role.

Probing Gravity at Large Scales with kSZ-Reconstructed Velocities and CMB Lensing

We present a new method for measuring the E_G statistic that combines two CMB secondaries -- the kinematic Sunyaev-Zeldovich (kSZ) effect and CMB lensing -- for the first time to probe gravity on linear scales. The E_G statistic is a discriminating tool for modified gravity theories, which leave imprints in lensing observables and peculiar velocities. Existing E_G measurements rely on redshift space distortions (RSD) to infer the velocity field. Here, we employ kSZ velocity-reconstruction instead of RSD, a complementary technique that constrains the largest-scale modes better than the galaxy survey it uses. We construct a novel V_G estimator that involves a ratio between cross-correlations of a galaxy sample with a CMB convergence map and that with a 3D kSZ-reconstructed velocity field. We forecast for current and upcoming CMB maps from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) and the Simons Observatory (SO), respectively, in combination with three spectroscopic galaxy samples from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI). We find cumulative detection significances in the range S/N sim 20-55, which can robustly test the scale-independent E_G prediction under general relativity (GR) at different effective redshifts of the galaxy samples (zapprox 0.73, 1.33, 1.84). In particular, the SOtimesDESI LRG measurement would be able to distinguish between GR and certain modified gravity models, including Hu-Sawicki f(R) and Chameleon theories, with high confidence. The proposed V_G estimator opens up a new avenue for stress-testing gravity and the LambdaCDM+GR model at the largest observable scales.

Simulating 2+1D Lattice Quantum Electrodynamics at Finite Density with Neural Flow Wavefunctions

We present a neural flow wavefunction, Gauge-Fermion FlowNet, and use it to simulate 2+1D lattice compact quantum electrodynamics with finite density dynamical fermions. The gauge field is represented by a neural network which parameterizes a discretized flow-based transformation of the amplitude while the fermionic sign structure is represented by a neural net backflow. This approach directly represents the U(1) degree of freedom without any truncation, obeys Guass's law by construction, samples autoregressively avoiding any equilibration time, and variationally simulates Gauge-Fermion systems with sign problems accurately. In this model, we investigate confinement and string breaking phenomena in different fermion density and hopping regimes. We study the phase transition from the charge crystal phase to the vacuum phase at zero density, and observe the phase seperation and the net charge penetration blocking effect under magnetic interaction at finite density. In addition, we investigate a magnetic phase transition due to the competition effect between the kinetic energy of fermions and the magnetic energy of the gauge field. With our method, we further note potential differences on the order of the phase transitions between a continuous U(1) system and one with finite truncation. Our state-of-the-art neural network approach opens up new possibilities to study different gauge theories coupled to dynamical matter in higher dimensions.

Holography of the BTZ Black Hole, Inside and Out

We propose a 1+1 dimensional CFT dual structure for quantum gravity and matter on the extended 2+1 dimensional BTZ black hole, realized as a quotient of the Poincare patch of AdS_3. The quotient spacetime includes regions beyond the singularity, "whiskers", containing timelike and lightlike closed curves, which at first sight seem unphysical. The spacetime includes the usual AdS-asymptotic boundaries outside the horizons as well as boundary components inside the whiskers. We show that local boundary correlators with some endpoints in the whisker regions: (i) are a protected class of amplitudes, dominated by effective field theory even when the associated Witten diagrams appear to traverse the singularity, (ii) describe well-defined diffeomorphism-invariant quantum gravity amplitudes in BTZ, (iii) sharply probe some of the physics inside the horizon but outside the singularity, and (iv) are equivalent to correlators of specific non-local CFT operators in the standard thermofield entangled state of two CFTs. In this sense, the whisker regions can be considered as purely auxiliary spacetimes in which these useful non-local CFT correlators can be rendered as local boundary correlators, and their diagnostic value more readily understood. Our results follow by first performing a novel reanalysis of the Rindler view of standard AdS/CFT duality on the Poincare patch of AdS, followed by exploiting the simple quotient structure of BTZ which turns the Rindler horizon into the BTZ black hole horizon. While most of our checks are within gravitational effective field theory, we arrive at a fully non-perturbative CFT proposal to probe the UV-sensitive approach to the singularity.

Achieving the quantum field theory limit in far-from-equilibrium quantum link models

Realizations of gauge theories in setups of quantum synthetic matter open up the possibility of probing salient exotic phenomena in condensed matter and high-energy physics, along with potential applications in quantum information and science technologies. In light of the impressive ongoing efforts to achieve such realizations, a fundamental question regarding quantum link model regularizations of lattice gauge theories is how faithfully they capture the quantum field theory limit of gauge theories. Recent work [Zache, Van Damme, Halimeh, Hauke, and Banerjee, at https://journals.aps.org/prd/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevD.106.L091502 has shown through analytic derivations, exact diagonalization, and infinite matrix product state calculations that the low-energy physics of 1+1D U(1) quantum link models approaches the quantum field theory limit already at small link spin length S. Here, we show that the approach to this limit also lends itself to the far-from-equilibrium quench dynamics of lattice gauge theories, as demonstrated by our numerical simulations of the Loschmidt return rate and the chiral condensate in infinite matrix product states, which work directly in the thermodynamic limit. Similar to our findings in equilibrium that show a distinct behavior between half-integer and integer link spin lengths, we find that criticality emerging in the Loschmidt return rate is fundamentally different between half-integer and integer spin quantum link models in the regime of strong electric-field coupling. Our results further affirm that state-of-the-art finite-size ultracold-atom and NISQ-device implementations of quantum link lattice gauge theories have the real potential to simulate their quantum field theory limit even in the far-from-equilibrium regime.

European Pulsar Timing Array Limits On An Isotropic Stochastic Gravitational-Wave Background

We present new limits on an isotropic stochastic gravitational-wave background (GWB) using a six pulsar dataset spanning 18 yr of observations from the 2015 European Pulsar Timing Array data release. Performing a Bayesian analysis, we fit simultaneously for the intrinsic noise parameters for each pulsar, along with common correlated signals including clock, and Solar System ephemeris errors, obtaining a robust 95% upper limit on the dimensionless strain amplitude A of the background of A<3.0times 10^{-15} at a reference frequency of 1yr^{-1} and a spectral index of 13/3, corresponding to a background from inspiralling super-massive black hole binaries, constraining the GW energy density to Omega_gw(f)h^2 < 1.1times10^{-9} at 2.8 nHz. We also present limits on the correlated power spectrum at a series of discrete frequencies, and show that our sensitivity to a fiducial isotropic GWB is highest at a frequency of sim 5times10^{-9}~Hz. Finally we discuss the implications of our analysis for the astrophysics of supermassive black hole binaries, and present 95% upper limits on the string tension, Gmu/c^2, characterising a background produced by a cosmic string network for a set of possible scenarios, and for a stochastic relic GWB. For a Nambu-Goto field theory cosmic string network, we set a limit Gmu/c^2<1.3times10^{-7}, identical to that set by the {\it Planck} Collaboration, when combining {\it Planck} and high-ell Cosmic Microwave Background data from other experiments. For a stochastic relic background we set a limit of Omega^relic_gw(f)h^2<1.2 times10^{-9}, a factor of 9 improvement over the most stringent limits previously set by a pulsar timing array.
