RefracGS: Novel View Synthesis Through Refractive Water Surfaces with 3D Gaussian Ray Tracing

Novel view synthesis (NVS) through non-planar refractive surfaces presents fundamental challenges due to severe, spatially varying optical distortions. While recent representations like NeRF and 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) excel at NVS, their assumption of straight-line ray propagation fails under these conditions, leading to significant artifacts. To overcome this limitation, we introduce RefracGS, a framework that jointly reconstructs the refractive water surface and the scene beneath the interface. Our key insight is to explicitly decouple the refractive boundary from the target objects: the refractive surface is modeled via a neural height field, capturing wave geometry, while the underlying scene is represented as a 3D Gaussian field. We formulate a refraction-aware Gaussian ray tracing approach that accurately computes non-linear ray trajectories using Snell's law and efficiently renders the underlying Gaussian field while backpropagating the loss gradients to the parameterized refractive surface. Through end-to-end joint optimization of both representations, our method ensures high-fidelity NVS and view-consistent surface recovery. Experiments on both synthetic and real-world scenes with complex waves demonstrate that RefracGS outperforms prior refractive methods in visual quality, while achieving 15x faster training and real-time rendering at 200 FPS. Diffusion Knows Transparency: Repurposing Video Diffusion for Transparent Object Depth and Normal Estimation

Transparent objects remain notoriously hard for perception systems: refraction, reflection and transmission break the assumptions behind stereo, ToF and purely discriminative monocular depth, causing holes and temporally unstable estimates. Our key observation is that modern video diffusion models already synthesize convincing transparent phenomena, suggesting they have internalized the optical rules. We build TransPhy3D, a synthetic video corpus of transparent/reflective scenes: 11k sequences rendered with Blender/Cycles. Scenes are assembled from a curated bank of category-rich static assets and shape-rich procedural assets paired with glass/plastic/metal materials. We render RGB + depth + normals with physically based ray tracing and OptiX denoising. Starting from a large video diffusion model, we learn a video-to-video translator for depth (and normals) via lightweight LoRA adapters. During training we concatenate RGB and (noisy) depth latents in the DiT backbone and co-train on TransPhy3D and existing frame-wise synthetic datasets, yielding temporally consistent predictions for arbitrary-length input videos. The resulting model, DKT, achieves zero-shot SOTA on real and synthetic video benchmarks involving transparency: ClearPose, DREDS (CatKnown/CatNovel), and TransPhy3D-Test. It improves accuracy and temporal consistency over strong image/video baselines, and a normal variant sets the best video normal estimation results on ClearPose. A compact 1.3B version runs at ~0.17 s/frame. Integrated into a grasping stack, DKT's depth boosts success rates across translucent, reflective and diffuse surfaces, outperforming prior estimators. Together, these results support a broader claim: "Diffusion knows transparency." Generative video priors can be repurposed, efficiently and label-free, into robust, temporally coherent perception for challenging real-world manipulation.

TransDiff: Diffusion-Based Method for Manipulating Transparent Objects Using a Single RGB-D Image

Manipulating transparent objects presents significant challenges due to the complexities introduced by their reflection and refraction properties, which considerably hinder the accurate estimation of their 3D shapes. To address these challenges, we propose a single-view RGB-D-based depth completion framework, TransDiff, that leverages the Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models(DDPM) to achieve material-agnostic object grasping in desktop. Specifically, we leverage features extracted from RGB images, including semantic segmentation, edge maps, and normal maps, to condition the depth map generation process. Our method learns an iterative denoising process that transforms a random depth distribution into a depth map, guided by initially refined depth information, ensuring more accurate depth estimation in scenarios involving transparent objects. Additionally, we propose a novel training method to better align the noisy depth and RGB image features, which are used as conditions to refine depth estimation step by step. Finally, we utilized an improved inference process to accelerate the denoising procedure. Through comprehensive experimental validation, we demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms the baselines in both synthetic and real-world benchmarks with acceptable inference time. The demo of our method can be found on https://wang-haoxiao.github.io/TransDiff/

Real2SAM2Real: Generative 3D Caches as Complementary Context for Video Diffusion

While Video Diffusion Models (VDMs) excel at synthesizing high-fidelity videos, enabling precise camera and scene control remains challenging. Existing methods predominantly rely on implicit diffusion priors to generate unobserved regions, inevitably leading to structural collapse during high-dynamic movements or complex occlusions. To address this challenge, we propose Real2SAM2Real, a framework that leverages 3D lifting models (e.g., SAM3D) to extract an explicitly editable 3D cache, serving as a robust geometric scaffold for the VDM. By capturing the entire 3D volume of foreground entities rather than just their visible shells, this cache injects holistic spatial priors into the VDM, providing dependable 3D-aware guidance for complex scene dynamics. To effectively leverage this 3D guidance while preserving pre-trained priors, we design a Soft Spatial-Aligned Injection mechanism alongside a minimally invasive fine-tuning strategy tailored for VDMs. Furthermore, we employ masked normal maps as a cross-modal bridge to construct a 3D-free data curation and perturbation pipeline. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Real2SAM2Real enables precise, decoupled control over both camera trajectories and multi-entity motions. By utilizing the complementary context from generative 3D caches, our framework overcomes typical breakdowns caused by over-reliance on diffusion priors, maintaining exceptional spatiotemporal consistency under large camera shifts and severe occlusions. Crucially, by decoupling geometry from appearance, our VDM-tailored 3D cache eradicates perspective ambiguities caused by structural holes and erroneous facades, as well as misleading cues from reflections and refractions. StereoAdapter-2: Globally Structure-Consistent Underwater Stereo Depth Estimation

Stereo depth estimation is fundamental to underwater robotic perception, yet suffers from severe domain shifts caused by wavelength-dependent light attenuation, scattering, and refraction. Recent approaches leverage monocular foundation models with GRU-based iterative refinement for underwater adaptation; however, the sequential gating and local convolutional kernels in GRUs necessitate multiple iterations for long-range disparity propagation, limiting performance in large-disparity and textureless underwater regions. In this paper, we propose StereoAdapter-2, which replaces the conventional ConvGRU updater with a novel ConvSS2D operator based on selective state space models. The proposed operator employs a four-directional scanning strategy that naturally aligns with epipolar geometry while capturing vertical structural consistency, enabling efficient long-range spatial propagation within a single update step at linear computational complexity. Furthermore, we construct UW-StereoDepth-80K, a large-scale synthetic underwater stereo dataset featuring diverse baselines, attenuation coefficients, and scattering parameters through a two-stage generative pipeline combining semantic-aware style transfer and geometry-consistent novel view synthesis. Combined with dynamic LoRA adaptation inherited from StereoAdapter, our framework achieves state-of-the-art zero-shot performance on underwater benchmarks with 17% improvement on TartanAir-UW and 7.2% improvment on SQUID, with real-world validation on the BlueROV2 platform demonstrates the robustness of our approach.
