Turn Twitch VODs into TikTok clips, Shorts and Reels on your own PC
Paste a twitch.tv/videos/… link. Clippy downloads the VOD, works
through it on your own machine, and hands back vertical clips with captions, ready
for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
Clips Kitty is free & open source ❤️
It runs entirely on your PC with no fees. Please consider donating to help cover development costs and keep it free for everyone.
How to turn a Twitch VOD into clips
Four steps. The second is the long one, and you don't have to sit through it.
-
Paste the VOD link
The
twitch.tv/videos/…link of a past broadcast, or a recording saved on your PC. No Twitch login is asked for. - Let it work through the stream It downloads the VOD, transcribes every word, reads the chat replay, and scores each moment on what was said, how it sounded, how it looked and how chat reacted.
- Look over the clips Each one comes back 9:16 with the speaker kept in frame, word-synced captions and a title. Move a start or an end, fix a caption or change the layout in the built-in editor.
- Post them Save the files and upload them to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels yourself, or turn on publishing and send them from the app.
Chat tells you where the moments are
Twitch is the one platform that keeps its chat after the stream ends, and that is the most honest signal there is: hundreds of people reacting in real time to something that just happened.
Clips Kitty reads chat replay and measures unique chatters per window rather than raw message count. That distinction matters, because a gifted-sub train or one person spamming copypasta produces a wall of messages that says nothing about the content. Counting distinct people instead means a genuine room-wide reaction registers and a single excited viewer does not.
Built for how streams actually look
Long and unstructured
A six-hour stream is chunked and analysed end to end, so the good bit at hour five gets the same attention as the intro.
Sparse talking
IRL and gym streams go quiet for minutes at a time. Analysis is sized by how much was actually said, not by the clock.
Guests wander in
The crop stays locked on whoever is speaking rather than jumping to every person who walks past the camera.
Game streams
Tick Gaming / Reaction and the webcam and the game share the clip, in one of eleven layouts. Twitch says which game was played over which part of the stream, so a highlight is judged the way that game needs. Game stream clips.
Streamed vertically
A Dual Format stream already has its phone layout. Tick Vertical Live and it is kept as it is. Twitch does not hand its vertical VOD to downloaders yet, so add the vertical recording as a file.
Viewers abroad
Captions can be translated and clips dubbed into 19 languages, and you review each one before anything is burned in.
A free Opus Clip alternative for Twitch
Opus Clip and tools like it run your VOD on their servers, on a free tier with limits or a monthly plan. Clips Kitty does the same job on your own PC, so there is nothing to meter.
- No subscription. Free and open source under AGPL-3.0, with no paid tier. A six-hour VOD costs what a ten-minute one does.
- No watermark, no clip cap, no expiry. Every moment that clears the bar comes back as a clip, and the files stay on your disk.
- Your VOD stays on your PC. It is downloaded to your machine and worked on there.
- Chat counts. For a Twitch VOD the chat replay is read as well, so the moments your viewers reacted to move up the list.
- The catch. It needs a Windows PC with 16 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA graphics card is strongly recommended. Opus Clip runs in any browser, including on a phone. If you have no suitable PC, or you clip only now and then, Opus Clip is the better choice.
The full comparison with Opus Clip has the current prices, and Compare covers Klap, Vizard and CapCut.
Hands-off: let it watch your channel
Add your Twitch channel to the channels Clips Kitty watches. Each new VOD is spotted and clipped by itself, starting from the layout you saved for that channel.
Turn on publishing as well and the clips are posted without you opening the app. Left running on a spare PC or a mini PC, it does this around the clock. A mini PC too weak to run the AI itself can hand that part to OpenRouter on your own account: in our test, a 2-hour stream cost about 11 cents.
What it does not do
- Live streams are not supported, by design. Clips Kitty works on finished VODs, where the whole thing can be studied before deciding what matters.
- It only posts if you ask it to. Clips land in a folder, organised by creator and video, ready to upload wherever you like. If you would rather not do that by hand, turning on publishing sends a clip to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and six more at once through WoopSocial or Upload-Post on your own account.
- It does not need your Twitch account. There is no login and no API key.

Questions
How do I turn a Twitch VOD into TikTok clips?
Paste the VOD's twitch.tv/videos link into Clips Kitty and press Generate clips. It downloads the VOD, finds the moments worth posting, crops each one to 9:16 with the speaker kept in frame and burns in captions. Upload the clips to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels yourself, or turn on publishing and send them from the app.
Is there a free Twitch clip generator?
Yes. Clips Kitty is free and open source under AGPL-3.0, with no paid tier, no watermark and no clip cap. It runs on your own Windows PC, so there is no subscription, and nothing is uploaded unless you turn on publishing or cloud AI.
Is Clips Kitty an Opus Clip alternative for Twitch streamers?
Yes. It does the same job, finding the highlights in a long video and turning them into captioned vertical clips, on your own PC instead of a server. For a Twitch VOD it also reads the chat replay, so the moments your viewers reacted to move up the list.
Does it need my Twitch account?
No. There is no login and no API key. The link to a public VOD is enough.
Can it clip my stream while I am live?
No, by design. It works on finished VODs, where the whole stream can be studied before deciding what matters.
Does it work for game streams?
Yes. Tick Gaming / Reaction and the webcam and the game go together in a 9:16 clip, in one of eleven layouts, with in-game moments and chat's reactions counted when the clips are picked.
What PC do I need?
Windows 10 or 11 with 16 GB of RAM. An NVIDIA graphics card is strongly recommended. When the PC is too old to run the AI itself, sign in with your OpenRouter account and the clip scoring and transcription run on models you pick: in our test, a 2-hour stream cost about 11 cents.
Can it post the clips for me?
Yes, if you turn it on. Clips go to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and more through a publishing service you connect: now, on a schedule, or by themselves for a channel you watch. It is off by default.
