Attempt at markdown-based document rendering (failed implementation)
Issues identified: - Markdown conversion from PDF OCR is lossy and breaks document layout - Two-column papers and figures cause paragraph fragmentation - Complex academic documents don't render properly in markdown - Example: figures interrupting text cause incomplete paragraph chunks This approach preserved 80% of chunking functionality but failed at document preservation.
