Citation identity, code package digest, rubric depth, and the revise letter
Browse filesA citation that carries a DOI is now judged by that DOI: it is resolved on
Crossref, then DataCite, and the record title is compared with the cited
title (authors and year when no title was cited). A DOI that resolves
nowhere is DOI DEAD; one that resolves to another work is DOI MISMATCH;
neither is ever verified, whatever a title or author-year search finds
afterwards. The search only names the probable intended record for the
panel and the letter. An author-year match with a different title is no
longer verified when the citation has a title. The verification report
carries an evidence level per line (confirmed / matched / mismatch /
dead / unverifiable) and no longer calls itself ground truth; the panel
prompt scores identifier disagreement under citation integrity. The
cited title survives verification as cited_title. A confirmed DOI that
CiteStamp does not know is appended to reviews/citestamp_coverage_gaps.jsonl.
code_digest.py fetches the author's declared Zenodo or GitHub archive
read-only into memory, capped, never executed, and puts the file list,
README head, definition inventory and the lines defining the paper's
named constructs (acronyms and named measures) inside the submission block of the
panel prompt, blinded like the abstract; saved as <id>_code_digest.md.
ICSAC_CODE_DIGEST=0 turns the fetch off.
The prompt and rubrics/methodology.md now ask whether a theorem's
assumptions hold in the paper's own examples, whether the novelty is a
result or a relabelling, and require claims about code to cite the code.
Proof checking is named as the curator's step; the curator escalation
carries a checklist.
The revise letters said the panel found issues, which is false when the
curation team's decision differs from the panel's. They now carry a
Curation team findings section read from <sub_dir>/curator_findings.md
(a loud bracket when absent) and say the decision is the curation team's.
ICSAC_OR_PAID_MODELS (hand-run only) heads each panel slot and the
misattribution chain with a paid OpenRouter model for one process.

"""Code package digest for the panel.
|
| 2 |
+
|
| 3 |
+
A panel can call an analysis "reproducible" without having opened the
|
| 4 |
+
code, even when the shipped scripts implement a different measure from the one the
|
| 5 |
+
paper defines. The panel cannot judge a claim about code it has not seen, so
|
| 6 |
+
this module fetches the author's DECLARED code/data archive, read-only, and
|
| 7 |
+
puts in front of the reviewers:
|
| 8 |
+
|
| 9 |
+
* the file listing (name, size) of the archive,
|
| 10 |
+
* the head of its README,
|
| 11 |
+
* the function/definition inventory of every source file, and
|
| 12 |
+
* the lines that define or assign the constructs the paper names (its
|
| 13 |
+
acronyms and named measures, e.g. XRM, XRM-2, NPT), with file:line.
|
| 14 |
+
|
| 15 |
+
What it never does: execute anything, write the archive to disk, follow more
|
| 16 |
+
than a size cap of bytes, or touch a link the author did not declare. ICSAC's
|
| 17 |
+
"never host authors' code" policy (2026-09-28) is about hosting; this is a
|
| 18 |
+
bounded read, in memory, discarded after the digest is written. Sources:
|
| 19 |
+
Zenodo records (files listed by the API, zip members read in memory), GitHub
|
| 20 |
+
repositories (the zipball), and nothing else -- an unknown host is named in
|
| 21 |
+
the digest as "not fetched" so the panel knows the claim stands unchecked.
|
| 22 |
+
|
| 23 |
+
The digest is untrusted author content: it goes INSIDE the submission block
|
| 24 |
+
of the panel prompt, under the same defensive preamble as the manuscript,
|
| 25 |
+
and through the blind-review span removal like the abstract. Fail OPEN: any
|
| 26 |
+
error yields a one-line digest that says what could not be fetched.

2. METHODOLOGICAL TRANSPARENCY: Are methods replicable and evaluable from the full text?
|
| 119 |
+
Any claim the paper makes ABOUT ITS CODE (what a script computes, what a case
|
| 120 |
+
study operationalizes, "reproducible", "non-decreasing by construction") must
|
| 121 |
+
be checked against the CODE PACKAGE DIGEST and cited to a file and line in the
|
| 122 |
+
justification. If the digest shows the code computes something other than the
|
| 123 |
+
paper's named construct, say so; if no digest is available, say the claim is
|
| 124 |
+
unverified from the code, not that it is verified.
|
| 125 |
|
| 126 |
3. INTERNAL CONSISTENCY: Do claims follow logically from methods and data presented?
|
| 127 |
+
For every theorem or formal result the paper relies on, ask whether its stated
|
| 128 |
+
assumptions HOLD IN THE PAPER'S OWN EXAMPLES (an assumption that holds only in
|
| 129 |
+
a limit, for instance, may fail in the paper's worked cases).
|
| 130 |
+
A result whose assumptions the paper's own examples violate is an inconsistency,
|
| 131 |
+
and the justification must name the assumption and the example.
|
| 132 |
|
| 133 |
4. CITATION INTEGRITY: Do referenced works appear real and used in a load-bearing
|
| 134 |
way (the cited work actually supports the claim being made)? Two distinct concerns
|
|
|
|
| 152 |
when their work concerns a different mechanism entirely — fails citation
|
| 153 |
integrity even though no fabrication occurred.
|
| 154 |
|
| 155 |
+
(c) IDENTIFIER DISAGREEMENT. The citation verification block above this prompt
|
| 156 |
+
checked every reference and marks each one CONFIRMED (identifier resolves
|
| 157 |
+
and matches), MATCHED (found by text only; existence, not identity),
|
| 158 |
+
DOI MISMATCH / DOI DEAD (the cited DOI points to a different work, or
|
| 159 |
+
nowhere), or UNVERIFIABLE. A MISMATCH or DEAD line is a citation-integrity
|
| 160 |
+
finding to score and to name in the justification: it shows a wrong
|
| 161 |
+
identifier, wrong authors, or a reference assembled from several works,
|
| 162 |
+
and it bears on the paper's statement about how its references were
|
| 163 |
+
checked. A MATCHED line is not proof of the cited authors, venue or pages.
|
| 164 |
+
|
| 165 |
+
Score the dimension based on (a)+(b)+(c) combined. If you cannot verify (a) one
|
| 166 |
+
way or the other, weight (b) more heavily and explicitly say so in the
|
| 167 |
+
justification.
|
| 168 |
+
|
| 169 |
+
5. NOVELTY SIGNAL: Does this present genuinely new ideas or approaches? Ask where
|
| 170 |
+
the novelty sits: in a RESULT (a theorem, a measurement, a mechanism that was
|
| 171 |
+
not available before) or in a RELABELLING (known results, a textbook derivation
|
| 172 |
+
or an existing method restated under new names and a new framework). Name which,
|
| 173 |
+
and score a relabelling as modest novelty however large the framework; a
|
| 174 |
+
synthesis earns novelty credit only where it yields something the parts did
|
| 175 |
+
not.
|

- **Assumptions must hold where the paper applies the result.** A theorem whose assumptions the paper's own examples violate (a continuity or density assumption applied where it cannot hold; an independence assumption applied to coupled data) does not support those examples. Name the assumption and the example.

- Proof checking is a curator step: the reviewer panel judges whether a proof is presented verifiably and whether its assumptions are stated and met; the curation team checks the proof itself before a decision.

## Claims About Code
|
| 20 |
+
|
| 21 |
+
- A claim about what the submission's code does ("the script computes X", "the analysis operationalizes the measure defined in §N", "reproducible", "holds by construction") is a claim about the code, and must be checked against the code package digest and cited to a file and line. A paper whose shipped code computes something other than the construct it names has not operationalized that construct.
|
| 22 |
+
- Where no code package could be read, a claim about the code is unverified, not verified.
