Root-cause fix for a data-loss hazard found in production.
Symptom: with an HF_TOKEN that cannot read the (private) state dataset, the
container logged
[hf-sync][ERROR] storage.sqlite.gz unusable: GET storage.sqlite.gz -> HTTP 401
[hf-sync] No saved state in the dataset yet - starting fresh (this is normal
on first run).
and then started the snapshot daemon on top of an EMPTY database.
Cause: download() returned null for 404 and threw for everything else, but the
caller swallowed both into the same 'no state' branch. An auth/network failure
was therefore reported as absence of state - and the next periodic snapshot
would have uploaded the fresh empty DB over the only good copy. (It did not
happen here only because the same broken token also blocked writes.)
Fix:
* 401/403 are raised as explicit auth errors naming the dataset and token.
* Failure and absence are now distinct: 'RESTORE FAILED' vs. 'both files
returned 404 - genuine first run'.

Remove leftover files from the previous Python crypto-API project
This Space now only runs the OmniRoute Docker image. Removing 183 files that
belonged to the earlier FastAPI/crypto-datasource project: Python sources,
test scripts, HTML fixtures, JSON fixtures and ~120 status/report markdown
files. None of them were referenced by the Dockerfile or the entrypoint.
Kept: .dockerignore, .gitattributes, .gitignore, Dockerfile, README.md,
sync-entrypoint.sh, hf-sync.mjs, plus .env.example and hf_dataset_uploader.py
at the maintainer's request.
Fully reversible: the complete pre-cleanup state is preserved on branch
pre-cleanup-2026-09-11 (commit 61e2cf8db2f0581564b6d3a21343a4fec78a061e).
Fix persistence: restore/snapshot state via HF dataset; pin base image to 3.8.50
sync-entrypoint.sh
- replace the python3/huggingface_hub restore block (dead code: those deps are not in
the Node base image, and it hardcoded /app/data instead of honouring $DATA_DIR)
with `node /app/hf-sync.mjs restore`
- mkdir -p $DATA_DIR now happens BEFORE restore
- drop `exec node ...`, which replaced the shell and made shutdown snapshots
impossible; run the app as a child under a SIGTERM/SIGINT trap instead so a final
snapshot is taken while the app is still alive, then the app is stopped
hf-sync.mjs (new, Node stdlib only)
- restore on boot: prefers storage.sqlite.gz, verifies the SQLite header, clears stale
-wal/-shm, atomic rename, refuses to overwrite an existing DB
- snapshots via OmniRoute's own GET /api/db-backups/export so they are WAL-consistent;
a failed export uploads nothing rather than something torn
- LFS object is uploaded before the dataset commit, so an interrupted shutdown leaves
the dataset on the previous good revision…
