3. The Challenge

The AV Causal Scenario Retrieval Challenge is a query-based video retrieval challenge focused on autonomous-driving scenarios. Given a natural-language query describing events, situations, interactions, or spatial, temporal, and causal relationships in a driving scene, a system must search a corpus of videos and return a ranked list of the clips that best match the query.

The held-out test set spans approximately 2,000 queries evaluated against a corpus of 600+ videos. A query can match more than one clip, so systems must retrieve all relevant scenarios and rank them highly.

For every test query, a submission produces an ordered list of video IDs. Results are measured with the several retrieval metrics as described in the challenge site.

The challenge is built on the CASCADE dataset, which provides dense human annotations for NVIDIA's public PAI-AV Dataset. CASCADE captures hierarchical, temporally dense relationships across real-world dashcam video including multi-entity-class schemas, explicit causal links, spatial containment hierarchies, and normative compliance flags.

Participants will submit their proposed solutions as full self-contained systems encapsulated in a docker image.

The dataset to be used in this Challenge is a publicly available dataset identified on the Challenge Page. NVIDIA is not releasing a dataset in connection with this Challenge and participants are responsible for obtaining the dataset and complying with any applicable terms.
