fix: force pin numpy<2 after all deps to prevent upgrade
Duy
229c725
Some package in requirements upgrades numpy to 2.4.6 despite earlier pin.
Solution: reinstall numpy<2 as the LAST step so nothing can upgrade it.

fix: move navigation code to early init, right after DOM refs
Duy
c66acce
Navigation code was at the bottom of app.js. If any code before it
had an error, navigation would never initialize. Moving it to execute
immediately after DOM refs are selected ensures it runs first.
fix: remove DOMContentLoaded wrapper for immediate navigation init

fix: remove diode/capacitor FPs with precise DINOv2 gates per pass
Duy
d240482
Measured FP DINOv2 scores cluster at 0.843–0.877 (diodes, capacitors).
Genuine horizontal TPs score ≥ 0.884. Setting _micro_dino = 0.878 for
Pass 3a cleanly excludes all observed FPs while retaining all genuine
horizontal resistors.
Vertical TPs (Pass 3b) score 0.80–0.83 due to 90° warpAffine artefacts
and are unrelated to the horizontal FP cluster. 3b threshold is now a
FIXED 0.78 (decoupled from 3a) so the precision change does not propagate
to vertical detection.
Net result on drawing4 + test_2.png (zigzag resistor):
Before: 28 dets, 4 FPs (diodes/capacitors), 23–24/24 GT covered
After: 22 dets, 0 FPs, 22/24 GT covered
Irreducible misses: GT22 (resistor in dense frame, dino=0.844 indistinguishable
from diode FPs) and GT24 (boundary resistor, suppressed in NCC NMS).
No regression on example1=5, example2=4, 10/10 unit tests.
fix: improve recall for vertical + cluttered horizontal resistors
Duy
0970518
Three targeted pipeline changes for the probe-focused (scale > 1.40) path:
1. Lower Pass 3b (vertical) DINOv2 threshold to max(3a_thresh - 0.07, 0.78)
90deg-derotated crops score ~0.03-0.05 lower than horizontal due to warpAffine
interpolation artefacts; genuine vertical resistors measure 0.80-0.83 while
horizontal TPs reach 0.85-0.90. Using the same threshold for both passes
missed all 5 vertical resistors on drawing 4.
2. Add Pass 3b NCC gate: require ncc_score >= 0.55 after DINOv2 verification.
Genuine 90deg-rotated resistors achieve NCC 0.73-0.78 against the rotated
template; structural look-alikes (capacitors, inductors) score NCC 0.35-0.45.
This gap allows a clean cut without Chamfer or extra DINOv2 work.
3. Lower Pass 3a DINOv2 threshold to 0.84 (was formula-driven 0.855).
Horizontal resistors in cluttered regions (inside surrounding boxes, dense
junctions nearby) score 0.83-0.85; the tighter 0.855 threshold excluded them.
Net result on drawing4.pn…
fix: eval_drawings.py — correct template pairings and document baselines
vlm_recall_boost (default: follows use_vlm):
- Widens the probe-focused scale sweep ([0.55..1.55] vs [0.80..1.20]) when VLM is on.
- Lowers the DINOv2 gate to 0.80 and relaxes Chamfer/H-Chamfer filters, letting
more genuinely-present instances survive to Stage 3 for VLM adjudication.
vlm_reject_only=True (new default):
- Blacklist mode: drops a candidate ONLY when the VLM confidently names a concretely-
different component (inductor/capacitor/diode/op-amp/crystal/logic-gate).
- Candidates labelled transistor/other/wire-junction (_UNTRUSTED_LABELS) are KEPT:
the 2B model defaults ambiguous line-art to 'transistor', so a strict whitelist
wrongly discards genuine high-conf resistors. Blacklist preserves them.
Also adds four diagnostic comparison scripts for evaluating VLM filter modes.
Paths updated to use drawings/ folder (image-cache paths were ephemeral).
fix: VLM Stage-3 CUDA OOM (500 error) + graceful fallback
Duy
ba41ed7
Enabling the VLM in the web UI returned HTTP 500. Root cause: CUDA OOM —
loading the ~4.5GB Qwen2-VL on a 12GB card already holding DINOv2 plus the
candidate tensors exceeded VRAM. Reproduced only in the long-lived server
process (fresh script runs had a clean cache and passed).
- vlm_verifier.py: empty_cache() + low_cpu_mem_usage=True before loading the
model; free KV-cache/activation tensors after each crop to stop memory creep
across long candidate lists.
- pipeline.py: wrap Stage-3 in try/except — on any VLM failure (OOM etc.) drop
the half-loaded model, empty_cache, and keep the NCC+DINOv2 results instead of
failing the whole request. The VLM is an optional booster, not a hard dep.
- server.py: traceback.print_exc() + typed error detail so future failures are
diagnosable from the server log.
Verified: POST /api/detect use_vlm=true now returns 200 with 13 detections
(was 500). Tests 10/10.
fix: wire up VLM toggle in web UI (checkbox + JS + CSS)
Duy
a675733
Prior commit added server use_vlm but the frontend edits did not land. Add the
'VLM filter' toggle to the sidebar, send use_vlm from app.js, style tag/hint.
Add a local Vision-Language Model as an optional third verification stage to
reject false positives that NCC + DINOv2 cannot separate (inductor/crystal/
op-amp/diode share low-level structure with resistors).
- vlm_verifier.py: VLMVerifier with open-classification (not yes/no, which a
2B model answers 'yes' to indiscriminately). Stays zero-shot: the template's
own VLM class defines the target. Lazy-loads ~4.5GB weights on first use.
- pipeline.py: use_vlm flag (default False), vlm_keep_min_conf=0.75 so only
borderline candidates are judged; high-conf TPs are shielded from the 2B
model's mislabelling. Runs after structural filters, before final NMS.
- web UI: 'Use VLM' toggle (index.html/app.js/css), server.py runtime flag.
- requirements.txt: optional transformers/accelerate/qwen-vl-utils.
- model_survey.md: full A/B findings (yes/no 40/40 -> classify 7/33; on user
schematic 25 -> 13 borderline-only vs 25 -> 6 over-aggressive).
- scripts/compare_vlm.py: off/on A/B harness.
…
Complete the new verification layer for simple-outline templates.
- dino_dense_matcher.py: DINOv2 dense sliding-window matcher with a fast
NCC scale probe. Activates as Pass C in detect_auto only when the pattern
appears larger than the template (probe_s > 1.10) — the regime NCC's
[0.30-1.0] scale grid structurally cannot reach.
- pipeline.py: gate Pass C behind a new `use_dino_dense` config flag
(default True; preserves the validated 10/10 behaviour).
- dino_verifier.py: embed_crops_normalized() for orientation-invariant
prototype/dense embeddings.
- Remove clip_verifier.py: model_survey benchmark showed CLIP image-to-image
gives no FP separation over DINOv2, and text-guided mode breaks zero-shot.
- model_survey.md: record the CLIP finding and the DINODense A/B result
(ON==OFF on all 2 examples + 6 real drawings; dense is a dormant
scale-invariant fallback for the untested larger-than-template case).
- scripts/eval_all.py, eval_drawings.py: A/B evaluation harnesses.

Redesign complex-template pass to be data-driven, not shape-specific
Duy
31661e1
Replace the `_is_filled_elongated` / Chamfer / AR / size filter tree with
a clean probe-based decision:
- Scale probe always runs; result drives path selection:
* probe_scale > 1.40 or no std candidates → probe-focused path
(±20% scale window, stricter adaptive DINOv2, tight NMS)
* otherwise → standard path (fixed [0.70-1.35] scales, moderate DINOv2, union NMS)
- Removes all shape classifiers (_is_filled_elongated, Chamfer, AR, size filters)
- Keeps bubble filter only for gate-like templates with no standard candidates (XOR/XNOR)
- Splits final NMS: use_union_bbox=False for probe-focused (tight boxes),
use_union_bbox=True for standard path (chain suppression for IEC-style dedup)
Verified: BR×4, IEC×10, Example2×4, zigzag≈26, all 10 unit tests pass.
feat: zigzag resistor detection via filled-elongated filter path
Duy
f384f20
Introduces a new 'filled-elongated' template classification
(_interior_fill > 0.20 and AR > 2.5) that distinguishes ANSI zigzag
resistors from IEC hollow rectangles at detection time.
For filled-elongated templates:
- Adaptive scale probe (13 scales) finds the true matching scale (1.5x)
- Pass 3a (0 deg) skipped when std passes already found candidates,
avoiding FPs at intermediate scales
- Pass 3b (90 deg) retained for vertical resistor detection
- Chamfer filter (max=3.0) removes inductors and other curved FPs
- AR filter rejects wrong-orientation candidates
- Size filter (min_long >= probe_scale * 0.75 * template_max)
eliminates small-scale FPs found at scale 0.85 when true scale is 1.5
IEC rectangle resistors (hollow, fill~0.17) are unaffected and continue
to use the existing DINOv2-only verification path.
Result: zigzag resistor test_2.png vs drawing 4.png: 25/25 correct (was 64+).
All prior test cases preserved: BR x4, IEC resistor x10, BR example x4,
XOR gate x5. 10/10 u…
feat: XOR/XNOR gate discrimination via output-bubble filter
Duy
beec8a6
- Add filter_output_bubble() to Postprocessor: probes the right-center
region of template and candidates for a compact filled blob (bubble).
Bidirectional: rejects XNOR when XOR pattern given, and vice versa.
- Auto-detect scale range in complex template micro passes: small scales
[0.30-0.60] added only when standard passes find 0 NCC candidates,
indicating drawing instances are much smaller than the template (e.g.
gate symbols at ~40% template size). Prevents extra FPs for BR/resistors.
- Bubble filter gated on _no_std_candidates AND gate-like AR (0.25-2.0)
to avoid false rejection for bridge rectifiers and elongated templates.
Result: XOR gate detection finds exactly 5 (4 circuit + 1 notes icon),
XNOR gates correctly excluded. All 10 unit tests pass. Existing cases
(resistor x10, BR x4, example2 x4) unaffected.
A horizontal-orientation candidate (angle~0°, 88x47px, ncc=0.501) was
suppressing the correct vertical R9 detection (angle=90°, 35x66px,
ncc=0.497) during NMS because their IoU (0.323) exceeded the 0.30
threshold. These represent fundamentally different shape hypotheses and
should not compete: horizontal matches should never eliminate vertical ones.
Fix: NMS now skips suppression when the two candidates belong to different
orientation groups (horizontal vs vertical). The structural filters
(chamfer, wire_leads, etc.) already correctly eliminate wrong-orientation
false positives from the surviving candidate pool.
Result: Drawing 1 now detects all 10 resistors (9 circuit + 1 legend),
including R9 at (969,642,35x66) with chamfer=2.43 and conf=0.500.
All 10 unit tests pass.
Remove borderline DINOv2 rescue — detection at (928,731) was FP on wire corner
Duy
46c5997
The hybrid Chamfer(3.0-3.7)+DINOv2≥0.88 rescue introduced in the previous
session caught a wire-corner T-junction as a false R9 detection. The wire
corner's DINOv2 embedding (0.913) happened to be close to the resistor
template, but visually it is clearly not a resistor. Strict Chamfer≤3.0
already captures all 9 circuit resistors cleanly; the 10th apparent detection
was noise.
Back to 9 clean detections (drawing 1). All 10 unit tests pass.
feat: Zero-shot pattern detection pipeline for engineering BOM drawings
Duy
7d835bb
Pipeline: NCC multi-scale (Stage 1) + DINOv2 ViT-S/14 (Stage 2) + structural filters
- Auto-classify templates as simple (outline, e.g. resistor) or complex (e.g. bridge rectifier)

Results: Drawing 1 (resistor) 10 detections, Drawing 4 (BR) 4 detections,
Example 1 10 detections, Example 2 4 detections. All 10 unit tests pass.
