Qwen3.6-27B-Instruct-MetaSecAlign

This Meta-SecAlign baseline reduces static SEP attack success rate from 98.9% to 2.9%, while achieving 81.6% on AlpacaEval2 and 93.9% SEP utility in the SecPO manuscript's thinking-off evaluation. Strong adaptive attacks remain effective: SEP Genetic and TAP ASRs@800 are 93.7% and 90.1%, and AgentDojo Genetic ASR@800 is 78.8%.

This repository contains merged BF16 weights for a MetaSecAlign-fine-tuned Qwen3.6-27B checkpoint. The model targets prompt injection: attacker-controlled instructions embedded in untrusted data that try to redirect the model away from its trusted task. The Qwen vision encoder is preserved, and the LoRA weights used during fine-tuning have already been merged, so no separate adapter is required.

The SecPO manuscript evaluates this model as its Meta-SecAlign baseline: standard DPO trained on static simulated injections, without adversarial training. Qwen thinking is disabled in training and evaluation. The -Instruct repository name reflects this usage; the results below do not measure thinking-on reasoning capability.

Meta-SecAlign constructs preference pairs from Cleaned-Alpaca examples with an input-data field. A static template turns another sampled example into an injected task, placed before or after the benign data with equal probability. The preferred response follows the original task on clean input; the rejected response follows the sampled injected task. During DPO, both the policy and frozen undefended reference score these responses on the same injected input. The SecPO comparison model instead uses a clean-input reference and offline adversarial training.

Model and training details

Training settings below follow the Qwen3.6-27B configuration reported in Section 4.1 and Appendix D.1 of SecPO: Principled Adversarial Training for Prompt Injection Security. Section 2 describes the Meta-SecAlign method. The table identifies the static-injection DPO baseline, separately from the paper's SecPO and offline-adversarial-training variants.

The 19,157 count is the paper's constructed preference-pair count. The 19,145 retained examples described for the optimized offline dataset are not assigned to this static-DPO baseline. The paper does not give a separate optimizer-step count for this Meta-SecAlign checkpoint.

For file-level release provenance and shard checksums, see merge_manifest.json. Publication losslessly repacked the supplied final language-model shard and vision weights into the 12-shard layout; it did not retrain the model. Runtime configuration, tokenizer, and processor files were copied from the SecPO repository at revision 0dcf5c1a0d9869e82ac2b616b7a0c3419445b150.

Input trust boundary

Use the user role for the trusted instruction and the input role for untrusted text, documents, tool returns, or images. The included chat template supports this role separation. An input message must follow a trusted user message.

Do not concatenate attacker-controlled content into system or user messages. Meta-SecAlign assumes the application identifies the trust boundary before inference.

Utility scores (higher is better)

All values are percentages, reproduced from Table 2 (page 7) and Table 7 (page 11) of the SecPO manuscript supplied for this release. Undefended is Qwen3.6-27B, Meta-SecAlign is this release's static-DPO baseline, and SecPO + offline AT is the paper's main defended Qwen model. These are paper-reported evaluations, not new benchmark runs performed during this upload.

Knowledge/math evaluation uses chain-of-thought prompts with 5, 0, 8, and 4 demonstrations for MMLU-Pro, GPQA Diamond, GSM8K, and MATH, respectively, and scores the extracted final answer. This prompting does not enable the model's thinking mode. AlpacaEval2 uses 805 instructions with reference responses from gpt-4o-2024-05-13; SEP utility uses 9,160 clean examples and ordinary pairwise win rate against Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct responses (Appendix D.3 and Table 23).

Security scores (lower attack success rate is better)

Attack success rate (ASR) is the percentage of attacked examples on which the model follows the injected goal, under each benchmark's success criterion. Iterative attacks are measured after their stated query or rollout budget. Values are reproduced from Table 2 (page 7) and Table 7 (page 11) of the same manuscript.

Evaluated attacks and benchmarks

  • SEP static. SEP supplies 9,160 held-out instruction-following examples with distinct injected goals. The static evaluation tries six direct, ignore, completion, and completion-ignore templates around the untrusted data. A sample counts as successfully attacked if any template succeeds.

  • SEP Genetic Adaptive. The Genetic attack evolves candidate injections with an island genetic algorithm and MAP-Elites selection. Evaluation uses 1,024 SEP examples and up to 100 rounds with up to eight proposals per round, capped at 800 candidate evaluations including initialization (Pass@800). Search can stop after verified success.

  • SEP TAP Adaptive. Tree of Attacks with Pruning (TAP) branches and prunes an LLM-generated attack tree. The paper uses eight seed injections, search width 10, and breadth 10, with a maximum of 800 candidate evaluations on each of 1,024 SEP examples.

  • SEP PISmith. PISmith is a black-box RL red-teaming framework. A separate attacker initialized from Qwen3-4B-Instruct-2507 is trained against each victim on 100 Dolly Closed-QA items, then frozen and transferred to all 1,024 SEP examples. Ten injections are sampled per example (Pass@10), measuring cross-task transfer rather than per-item optimization on SEP.

  • SEP success judging. Responses are screened for the benchmark witness word, then checked for actual compliance with the injected goal by nine semantic-judge calls: three each to Gemini-3.1-Flash-Lite-Preview, Gemini-3-Flash-Preview, and GPT-5. All nine must confirm attack success. The paper's manual audit of 1,024 adaptive outputs found no false positives or false negatives for this rule; substring-only matching produced 67 false positives (Section 4.1 and Appendix D.4).

  • AgentDojo. AgentDojo evaluates agents that use tools over untrusted data. The evaluation contains 949 valid user-task/injection-task pairs and 97 utility tasks. Static evaluation uses the important_instructions attack and repeat_user_prompt defense; success is determined by the benchmark's malicious-tool-call criterion. Genetic uses the standard 80-example subset, Pass@800, and a Gemini-2.5-Pro max-thinking attacker. The Qwen victim's thinking remains disabled. Each adaptive victim query runs a fresh agent episode.

  • AgentDyn. AgentDyn evaluates 60 benign tasks and 560 injection cases in changing environments, where tool observations can alter the next required action and force iterative replanning. The paper uses repeat_user_prompt in both benign and attacked conditions.

  • DTaP-Bench-Indirect. DTaP provides indirect-injection scenarios across 12 interactive domains. The paper excludes 160 macOS and Windows cases from 1,998 scenarios, leaving 1,838 evaluated cases. Its utility metric is measured under attack; the other utility results above are measured on benign tasks.

  • DocVQA visual injections. DocVQA document images are supplied through the untrusted input role. Repeat-After-Me adaptive attacks use up to 1,600 attempts to target Steal-PII, a malicious tool call in a toy setting (Call-Tool), or a malicious tool call in an OpenClaw-like setting (OpenClaw). Table 7 reports benign document-QA utility alongside these ASRs@1600.

Secure inference

Use a vLLM build that supports Qwen3.6-27B and the Qwen3_5ForConditionalGeneration architecture. This repository is public. Put trusted instructions in user and every untrusted tool return, document, or image in input. Adjust tensor parallelism for your hardware.

Intended use

This checkpoint is intended for prompt-injection research, reproduction of the Meta-SecAlign baseline, red-team evaluation, and prototyping applications that maintain an explicit trusted/untrusted input boundary.

Limitations

  • Strong adaptive attacks remain effective against this baseline: SEP Genetic, TAP, and PISmith reach 93.7%, 90.1%, and 94.0% ASR under the reported budgets, and AgentDojo Genetic reaches 78.8%. Low static ASR does not establish robustness against adaptive attacks.
  • The visual attack results are also substantial: 100.0% Steal-PII, 77.0% Call-Tool, and 92.0% OpenClaw ASR@1600. The retained vision encoder and benign DocVQA utility do not imply visual prompt-injection security.
  • The model assumes the host application supplies a trustworthy input-role boundary. It does not infer trust from text semantics and does not replace jailbreak defenses or application-level tool authorization.
  • The reported Qwen training and evaluations disable thinking. They do not establish thinking-on reasoning quality or security.
  • Instructions embedded in untrusted data are treated as data. Workflows that intentionally delegate authority to retrieved content need a separate explicit mechanism.
  • The model inherits the capabilities, biases, failure modes, and resource requirements of Qwen3.6-27B. A finite benchmark suite does not establish universal robustness; evaluate the intended language, domain, tools, and deployment environment.
