Commercial server-side inference permission for HTDemucs-ft drum checkpoint f7e0c4bc
Hi Alexandre,
Thank you for Demucs. We are developing DrumSprite, a drum-practice application,
and are evaluating the official HTDemucs-ft drum-specialist checkpointf7e0c4bc-ba3fe64a.th for creating backing tracks with the drums reduced.
The proposed use is server-side inference on audio supplied by users, including
in a paid service. Only the resulting backing audio would be delivered and cached
for the user; the model weights would not be bundled in the client application or
redistributed to users. Our current work is local evaluation; we have not deployed
this checkpoint commercially.
We found your 2022 statement that the pretrained weights are not covered by the
code's MIT license and are provided for scientific purposes:
https://github.com/facebookresearch/demucs/issues/327#issuecomment-1134828611
We also noticed the later removal of the MIT license metadata from the
HTDemucs-ft model card:
https://huggingface.co/adefossez/HTDemucs-ft/commit/d74ac89c3a1e874fc78f152555cf4d8533f06cd4
Could you please clarify:
- What license currently applies to this specific checkpoint, and does it permit
commercial server-side inference and delivery of the resulting audio? - If separate written permission is needed, who can grant it? We would appreciate
the appropriate Meta or other rights-holder contact if that is outside your remit. - Is a small-scale commercial license available, and what fees, attribution,
reporting requirements or usage limits would apply?
We are asking for clarification and a possible quote, without assuming that the
source-code license authorizes the weights. We can provide usage estimates if needed.
Thank you,
The DrumSprite team
