Personal GIS
Public geographic data storage for Birudo's personal GIS exploration project.

Publication rules
- Publish only datasets whose redistribution terms have been verified. Public availability alone is not permission to redistribute.
- Never upload personal POIs, routes, credentials, or the entire project directory by default.
- Each published dataset must include source URL, attribution, license, product version, observation year, units, CRS, resolution, processing steps, limitations, and a SHA-256 checksum.
- Use explicit versioned paths such as
population/worldpop/2020/v1/. Buckets have no Git version history; do not overwrite published versions. - Prefer losslessly compressed Cloud Optimized GeoTIFFs (COGs) for raster data. Retain vector features in suitable vector formats, not rasterized merely for storage.
- Treat raster overviews as display aids, not authoritative population totals.
- Verify uploaded files by downloading or reading them back before removing any local copy. Local deletion is a separate, explicit operation.
Published data
Laos population density, 2020 (v1)
- File:

- Original raster: https://data.worldpop.org/GIS/Population/Global_2000_2020_1km_UNadj/2020/LAO/lao_ppp_2020_1km_Aggregated_UNadj.tif
- Source license recorded in project provenance: CC BY 4.0; attribution to WorldPop, University of Southampton. This is a derived product, not an official WorldPop density release.
- Units: people/km². CRS: EPSG:4326. Grid spacing: approximately 30 arc-seconds; 905 × 1031 cells. NoData: -99999.
- Derivation: UN-adjusted modelled persons per cell divided by WGS84 ellipsoidal full-cell area in km². Converted to lossless DEFLATE COG; two average overviews for display. Full-resolution values unchanged in COG conversion.
- Limitations: modelled estimates, not household observations; full-cell rather than land-only density. Do not sum density cells or use overview values for population totals.
- SHA-256:

Upload was downloaded back and SHA-256 matched. Anonymous HTTP range request returned 206; GDAL successfully opened the remote COG through /vsicurl/.

EPSG:4326, 43,199 × 16,755 cells, approximately 30 arc-seconds, Float32, NoData -99999. Source extends approximately 56°S–83.63°N; Antarctica is absent. Modelled population, not household observations. Counts are people/cell; density is people/km² using full-cell WGS84 ellipsoidal area. Density arithmetic rounds to Float32; subsequent DEFLATE COG storage preserves stored values exactly. Seven average overviews per file are for display, not population totals.
Both outputs passed full blockwise pixel/mask equality against their pre-COG inputs, structural COG validation, full upload/download SHA-256 checks, anonymous HTTP 206 byte-range checks, and local-vs-cloud pixel comparisons inside QGIS for Bangkok, Tokyo, New York, Lagos, São Paulo and an ocean window.
