Class 6 | Ch1: Knowing Our Numbers Indian number system: ones, thousands, lakhs, crores. Place value = digit x position value. Face value = digit itself. For 5,08,01,592: 5 in crores=5,00,00,000. Face value of 8=8 always. Comparison: more digits=greater. Same digits: compare from left. Rounding: nearest 10 (look at ones), nearest 100 (look at tens). Roman: I=1,V=5,X=10,L=50,C=100,D=500,M=1000. Before=subtract(IV=4), After=add(VI=6). Example: 7,35,02,814 = Seven crore thirty-five lakh two thousand eight hundred fourteen. Common mistake: place value depends on position, face value is always the digit itself.
