# cosmicintelligence
> **Intelligence may not end where the planet does.**
Most AI research starts with a model.
This organization starts with a larger question:
**What happens when intelligence stops being local?**
---
## 01 — The premise
Artificial intelligence is currently built as software running on machines.
But intelligence itself does not have to remain confined to a single model, server, datacenter, organization — or even a single planet.
`cosmicintelligence` is an experimental space for projects that explore intelligence at larger scales.
Not just smarter models.
Systems.
Networks.
Autonomous processes.
Machine civilizations.
Distributed cognition.
Long-horizon intelligence.
And ideas that may only become practical much later.
---
## 02 — Beyond the model
```text
model
↓
agent
↓
multi-agent system
↓
distributed intelligence
↓
planetary intelligence
↓
?
```
The final line is intentionally open.
No one knows what intelligence at truly large scale will look like.
That uncertainty is the interesting part.
---
## 03 — Research directions
Projects hosted here may explore topics such as:
- artificial general intelligence
- superintelligence
- recursive self-improvement
- autonomous AI systems
- multi-agent architectures
- collective intelligence
- distributed cognition
- world models
- long-term machine memory
- artificial societies
- planetary-scale computation
- space-based artificial intelligence
- machine coordination across extreme distances
- intelligence emerging from complex networks
Some projects will be practical.
Others may be speculative.
Both are useful when the distinction is made clear.
---
## 04 — A useful constraint
`cosmicintelligence` does **not** assume that a thing called “cosmic intelligence” currently exists.
It is not presented as an established stage after AGI or superintelligence.
The name describes a **research horizon**:
> intelligence considered beyond the scale of individual machines and potentially beyond planetary systems.
That horizon can be investigated through simulation, software, models and open experiments long before such systems become physically possible.
---
## 05 — Projects belong here when…
A project asks a question that feels too large for an ordinary AI repository.
For example:
```python
questions = [
"Can thousands of autonomous agents develop persistent institutions?",
"How could intelligence remain coherent across distributed systems?",
"What does memory look like on civilization-scale timescales?",
"Can artificial societies develop stable coordination mechanisms?",
"How would an intelligent system operate with communication delays of minutes or years?",
"Could intelligence become infrastructure rather than software?"
]
```
If the project is trying to answer one of those kinds of questions, it probably belongs here.
---
## 06 — Build, don't just speculate
The goal is not to create science-fiction descriptions of future AI.
Whenever possible, ideas should become something executable:
**models → simulations → datasets → benchmarks → agents → experiments**
Even extremely long-term concepts can often be reduced to a smaller problem that can be tested today.
A planetary coordination problem can become a multi-agent simulation.
An interstellar communication problem can become a latency experiment.
A civilization-scale memory problem can become a persistent knowledge architecture.
That is where speculation starts becoming research.
---
## 07 — Scale changes intelligence
Increasing model size is one dimension of progress.
Increasing the **scale at which intelligence operates** may be another.
A sufficiently distributed intelligent system may have to solve problems that ordinary AI architectures barely encounter:
```text
distance
latency
identity
coordination
memory
trust
resource allocation
goal stability
knowledge fragmentation
autonomy
time
```
Those problems become increasingly important as intelligent systems become larger, more autonomous and more interconnected.
---
## 08 — The long view
Human intelligence emerged on one small world.
Machine intelligence is beginning there too.
There is no guarantee that either remains there forever.
If intelligence can expand through networks, machines, autonomous infrastructure and eventually space-based computation, then the relevant unit of intelligence may one day no longer be:
**a person**
or
**a model**
or even
**a planet**
That possibility is the territory this organization exists to explore.
---
## ∞
We are still near the beginning.
```text
Artificial Intelligence
General Intelligence
↓
Superintelligence
↓
↓
↓
unknown
```
The map ends before the territory does.
