| # Optional backup and restore | |
| Use the official esptool. Replace `PORT` with your badge's serial port. With the | |
| original summit app, connect USB and hold rear SHARE until solid blue, then release. | |
| ```sh | |
| python -m pip install esptool==5.6.0 | |
| python -m esptool --chip esp32c3 --port PORT --baud 460800 --before usb-reset --after hard-reset read-flash 0x0 0x400000 original-badge.bin | |
| ``` | |
| Keep the 4,194,304-byte backup privately. It can include photos, contacts, and | |
| settings. For an independent check, read again to a different filename and compare | |
| SHA-256 hashes. Return to solid-blue mode again before using the browser flasher. | |
| To restore your own backup to the same badge: | |
| ```sh | |
| python -m esptool --chip esp32c3 --port PORT --baud 460800 --before usb-reset --after hard-reset write-flash 0x0 original-badge.bin | |
| ``` | |
| The native flower app keeps USB awake and does not need the solid-blue sequence. | |
| These commands do not write eFuses. See the | |
| [official command reference](https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esptool/en/latest/esp32c3/esptool/basic-commands.html). | |
